Mega menu
Thirty categories do not fit in one column. Two fields on a menu entry, and they spread out.
A single-column submenu suits five entries. A store with departments has thirty, and stacking them produces a list that runs off the screen.
Turning it on
Appearance → Menus, open a top-level entry, and tick Open as a mega menu. Two more fields appear:
- Columns — from two to six.
- Image ID (optional) — an attachment ID; the image sits to the right of the panel. Find it in Media: the number at the end of the URL when you open an image.
Only top-level entries offer these: a mega menu opened from a submenu would have nowhere to go.
What does not change
The menu stays an ordinary WordPress menu — same entries, same editing screen, same translation plugins. Nothing is stored anywhere but in the entry’s own metadata, and deactivating the plugin gives you plain submenus back without losing a single entry.
On a phone
The panel becomes a normal nested list. A four-column grid on a 375 px screen would be unreadable.
